Job Overview:
We are seeking (2) dedicated and motivated individuals to join our team as Assistant Cooks in the food industry. As an Assistant Cook, you will provide support in various kitchen and food service tasks, ensuring the smooth operation of our catering service.
Responsibilities:
- Work under the direct supervision of the Chef to cook and prepare meals for large groups, following approved recipes, portion standards, and production plans.
- Perform basic cooking tasks such as sautéing, grilling, baking, boiling, steaming, and reheating food items, as instructed by the Chef.
- Assist in preparing proteins, vegetables, sauces, and starches using standard kitchen equipment and established cooking methods.
- Monitor cooking times and food temperatures to ensure meals meet food safety, quality, and consistency requirements.
- Assist with plating, assembling, and packaging meals for delivery to shelters and non profit organizations.
- Support the kitchen team in meeting daily meal production targets and delivery timelines under the Chef’s direction.
- Assist with receiving, storing, and rotating food supplies according to food safety and inventory procedures.
- Perform additional kitchen and food preparation duties as assigned by the Chef to support daily operations.
- Participate in ongoing training to improve basic cooking skills, kitchen efficiency, and food handling practices.
We are looking for the following qualifications:
- On the job training will be provided - previous experience in the food industry or a similar role is preferred;
- Completion of secondary school; post-secondary coursework or training related to cooking or food preparation is considered an asset.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Basic English language skills sufficient to understand instructions and communicate with team members.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a kitchen team under supervision.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays as required by operational needs.
- Ability to follow food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.
- Physically able to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive kitchen tasks.
What we offer:
- Permanent, full-time position with lots of room to grow!
- Starting annual rate of 57,000 for at least 30 hours per week;
- Overtime rate will apply after 44 hours of work per week;
- Location of Work: 985 Pape Avenue, East York, Ontario
