Senior Business Development Associate - Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A)
Our sustainability portfolio is seeking an experienced and driven business development professional to join our growing team. Reporting directly to the VP of M&A and the CEO of Sustainability, this role plays a critical part in identifying and screening qualified acquisition opportunities with the goal of deploying capital in line with the company’s investment strategy.
You will be an integral member of our M&A team, working in a fast-paced, relationship-driven environment. The ideal candidate is people-oriented, highly self-motivated, and passionate about uncovering and pursuing new business opportunities. Prior experience in business development, inside sales, or M&A sourcing is essential.
Responsibilities/Day To Day Activities
- Conduct in-depth market and industry research to identify and evaluate potential acquisition targets aligned with the company's investment strategy;
- Assist in the development of target selection criteria and analytical frameworks for assessing the financial viability, market positioning, and strategic fit of potential acquisitions;
- Prepare market intelligence reports, benchmarking analyses, and feasibility studies to support M&A decision-making;
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and refine business development strategies based on market trends and economic indicators;
- Maintain an internal database of potential acquisition targets and ensure accurate tracking and reporting through Salesforce CRM and other research tools;
- Develop and present strategic briefs and acquisition recommendations to senior leadership;
- Travel to client sites and industry events as needed to build relationships and support business development efforts.
What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of direct experience in inside sales, business development, or M&A sourcing;
- Proven track record in business development with strong skills in sales, lead generation, and identifying new business opportunities;
- Exceptional organizational, written, and verbal communication skills;
- A self-starter who thrives on new challenges, with strong prioritization and multitasking abilities;
- Fluency in English;
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree in economics, commerce, business administration, management, finance or public administration;
- Willingness and ability to travel to client sites as required.
What Will Make You Stand Out
- Experience in M&A or working with software/tech companies
- Proficiency in Salesforce or another CRM system
Compensation
- Annual Salary: $82,000 CAD
- Hours: 30 hours per week
- Overtime: Payable at 1.5x the regular rate for hours worked beyond 44 hours per week, in accordance with Ontario labour standards
