Job Description

Steven Karr established Pride Pak Canada Ltd. (“Pride Pak”) in 1984 to service what he saw as a need to meet Canada’s growing trend for high quality, healthy, easy to use fresh food. We now proudly operate as Canada’s largest fresh fruit and vegetable processor from a state-of-the-art facility in Mississauga. In 2006 we opened our second facility Pride Pak Nfld. Ltd, which processes fresh fruit and vegetables for the Province of Newfoundland.

Please note that our Production areas are refrigerated to 5°C (40°F), and employees are required to dress accordingly. We offer employment opportunities on days, afternoons and night shifts with some positions requiring weekend work. Food Processing Quality Control Technician (3 positions)

As a Food Processing Quality Control Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest quality standards in our food processing operations. You will be responsible for monitoring and inspecting all stages of production to ensure compliance with food safety regulations, quality specifications, and customer requirements. Your attention to detail and commitment to safety will help maintain the integrity of our products and ensure customer satisfaction.

Job Duties:

  • Quality Control Inspections: Perform inspections and tests on raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods to ensure compliance with internal standards, regulatory requirements, and customer specifications.
  • Food Safety Monitoring: Monitor and enforce food safety procedures, including HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and sanitation protocols.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of quality control activities, test results, and corrective actions. Prepare quality reports and share findings with the production team and management.
  • Corrective Actions: Identify, report, and assist in implementing corrective actions for non-conformance or deviations from quality standards, ensuring quick resolution and minimizing product waste.
  • Process Improvements: Collaborate with production teams to identify opportunities for process improvements, contributing to the efficiency and overall quality of food production.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and industry regulations, such as CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency), FDA, and other relevant standards.
  • Equipment Calibration: Regularly calibrate and maintain quality control equipment to ensure accurate test results.
  • Training: Train and educate staff on quality control procedures, food safety practices, and proper handling of materials to maintain high standards across the production floor.

Requirements:

  • Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a quality control role within the food processing industry.
  • Strong understanding of HACCP, GMP, food safety regulations, and quality control processes.
  • Proficient in using quality control equipment and conducting tests such as microbiological, chemical, and physical assessments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an ability to identify quality issues and implement corrective measures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear reports and effectively communicate with team members.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including production, operations, and management.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, capable of handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to work in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities, and the ability to maintain quality under pressure.
  • HACCP certification or equivalent food safety certifications are preferred.

Work Environment:

  • The position may require working in cold or humid environments typical of food processing facilities.
  • The role involves standing for long periods and conducting frequent inspections on the production floor.

Compensation:

  • This is a full-time, permanent position with at least 30 hours of work per week
  • Annual salary starting at $39,000.00 to $45,000.00, commensurate with experience. Overtime compensation is provided for hours worked beyond 44 per week.
