Current Opportunity: Apprentice Machinist

Are you passionate about machining and eager to develop your skills in a hands-on environment? SteelServ is seeking dedicated and motivated 5 Apprentice Machinists to join our dynamic team. This is an excellent opportunity to gain comprehensive training and experience in a supportive setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documents to determine machining operations required;
  • Plan the best sequence of operations for optimal efficiency;
  • Compute dimensions and tolerances, and accurately measure and lay out workpieces;
  • Set up, operate, and maintain a variety of machine tools, including CNC equipment, to perform precision machining operations such as sawing, turning, milling, drilling, and grinding;
  • Assemble machined metal parts and subassemblies using hand and power tools;
  • Verify the accuracy and conformance of finished products to specifications using precision measuring instruments;
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth production processes;
  • May involve setting up and programming machine tools for use by other machining tool operators.

Requirements:

  • Completion of secondary school;
  • On-the-job training will be provided for 6 months under the supervision of a senior machinist. This hands-on training will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in your role;
  • Experience as a Machinist or similar role in a manufacturing environment, is an asset;
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documents.
  • Experience with a variety of machine tools, including CNC equipment is a plus.
  • Prior experience in setting up and programming machine tools is a plus.
  • Familiarity with precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and quality control.
  • Good English language skills.

Compensation and Conditions:

  • Permanent, full-time position;
  • Hourly rate of  $28.00 for at least 40 hours work week;
  • Occasional overtime may be required with applicable overtime pay after 44 hours of work per week;
  • Location of work: 20 Myler Street, Hamilton, Ontario L8L 0B9
