Cha Baa Thai Restaurant Ltd.  is seeking 4 Assistant Cooks with an understanding of the preparation of Thai and Pan-Asian cuisine for their locations in the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), Nova Scotia. 

Position: Permanent, full time and overtime as needed 

Salary: $17.00/hr for minimum of 30 hours per week 

Location: Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM), Nova Scotia 

Education: Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent an asset  

Vocational or technical training & trade certifications or equivalent are an asset 

Experience: 7 months to less than 1 year experience cooking authentic Thai and Pan-Asian cuisine 

Language: Speak, Read, Write English

Specialization: Understanding of Thai and Pan-Asian food - appetizers, main course dishes and desserts 

Reporting to the Senior Cook, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:  

  • Consistently offer professional, friendly and proactive guest service while supporting fellow Colleagues 

  • Assist in the preparation and service of all food items for a la carte menu according to Company recipes and standards 

  • Assist in the preparation and service food items for guests with food allergies or intolerances. 

  • Develop knowledge of all menu items, daily features and promotions 

  • Learn to work with specialized cooking equipment and utensils. 

  • Understand and learn the intricacies of preparing menu, determining size of food portions, estimating food requirements and costs. 

  • Understand and learn how to maintain proper rotation of product in all chillers to minimize wastage/spoilage 

  • Review storeroom and develop storeroom requisitions list 

  • Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of all work areas, utensils, and equipment 

  • Follow kitchen policies, procedures and service standards 

  • Follow all safety and sanitation policies when handling food and beverage 

Summary of Qualifications: 

  • Previous experience with preparation of Thai food and Thai food carving techniques an asset 

  • Journeyman’s papers or international equivalent an asset 

  • Diploma/Certification in a Culinary discipline an asset 

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and problem solving abilities 

  • Highly responsible & reliable 

  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment 

  • Ability to work cohesively as part of a team 

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs 

  • Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times 

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
